Computer viruses can be spread through disks, pen drives, email and over the internet so it is vital to have antivirus software installed and running on your computer.
Good modern antivirus software will scan every file on your computer, as well as scanning emails and checking websites.
Norton, Macafee, Avira, Kaspersky and Panda are well known and effective paid-for anti-virus programs but a free option is AVG Anti-Virus Free. It can be downloaded from free.avg.com
Also new and very good is Microsoft Security Essentials. It is Microsoft’s own antivirus program and it can be downloaded from www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
